A ******** spammer that's what...

From what i've been reading, Akuma is currently considered the top tier now. WHat it boils down to is that his handicap doesn't matter if he beat the other player to his attack. If he gets the one-two punch before the other player gets the 1 punch, he wins.

And even medium attacks from him are devstating, because his drop pattern really is that good.

Chun Li can beat akuma by striking first easily. But if akuma strikes first, he will win.

The match versus devilot is fair.

Ryu's original pattern is so bad because snake towers actually do obscene damage. A two step combo involving two sets of bridged towers is usually a death combo.

And dan isn't quite as bad as he looks. Winning because no red crash gem shows is priceless.

Hey Pyogenes, sorry I didn't get your invite for PF the other day. I was busy playing, of all things, Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1). It's kind of funny actually, I've got GTA IV, Assassin's Creed, and a whole bunch of other games just sitting there while I'm playing tactics.

Hope to get in some games with ya soon.

There's definitely a lack of transitive property among Puzzle Fighter players, because I bat around .250 against hamster78's Akuma (I play as Pyogenes, my bro's account), but I usually fare well against jd501, going 6-2 just this evening. That really pokes a hole in my 1-style-fits-all approach to this game.

My friend recently got an XBox360, so if he ever gets that online, I might check out the playing field there.

Few remarks:

Whenever I play against Devilot, the words "build with impunity" come to mind. I find the 85% drop strength to be a huge handicap for Devilot. If two average players play Devilot vs. Akuma, I think that bodes well for the Devilot player, but I agree that a solid Akuma player will lick his chops knowing he doesn't have to worry as much about getting super combo finished. I would say an expert Devilot player would also relish the D v A match up, but there might be no such thing as an expert Devilot player, since Devilot is a weak character and the top players tend to avoid her altogether unless playing a tune-up, friendly match.

My feelings toward perpetual comeback in this game are slightly less negative than before. The key toward perpetual comeback in this game, the diamond, doesn't create so many bail-out wins to be anywhere near the hideous level of Mario Kart, which always punishes good players and always rewards lousy ones. And in rare occasions, the diamond can be your worst enemy, so it's more than just a suck out item.

And at least the XBLA leaderboards are still climbable. Until PSN resets, don't bother trying to crack the top 20.

all right, I forgot about the previous posts. I do know johnfran though, he is a buddy of mine. I would still like to see you cross over and let him have a crack at you eventually, but I understand your concerns.

Lol. I really doubt you are Johnfran29 based upon what you say in your post dated April 22nd, 2008 at 1:12 am and on February 6th, 2008 at 12:48 am.

To settle your curiosity about how I measure up, I'll say straight off the bat that jd501 also plays on PSN as well and he is obviously better than I am. I've suspected for some time that XBLs PF community is stronger than PSNs simply because it has a larger install base but I am still hesitant to make the jump since I'm not interested in buying shoddy hardware.

Until I get some numbers proving that the Falcon 360 chipset is bringing down the occurences of RRoD (and are available in the Elite models) I'm not interested, though games like Ikaruga, GTA IV, and eventually STHD are really making me reconsider.

Hey Hamster, I have been reading a lot about you in various posts and you sound like a good player from your advice on the above threads. I really wish you were on Xbox Live. My gamertag is Johnfran29 and I am always looking for new people to play. I used to play with JD501 and Crash Geom a lot, but haven't seen them in ages. JD has his live gamertag set up so he always seems offline, so he is tough to catch. There is some good comp over there on live and the community remains pretty strong-I have great matches with VGTA, JinraiSRK, MiniGuy, DandyCage, and Shadow Blanka. I was #1 X' for a while, but recently lost my ranking b/c I began playing again. If I lose 1 match out of 100, I go down 3 points, it is tough to sustain a good ranking, I would rather play frequently. I have 5000+ wins now. I know you are on the fence, but I sure would like to see you over on xbox live.

I play every now and then. Been trying to learn SSBB with limited success and I just bought GTA IV but if you catch me on, and not away from the console, I pretty much always accept invites to PF.

Unfortunately I only play on PSN. Still waiting for someone to confirm that Falcon chipsets are more reliable and that they come in the Elite models (purchasing a $450 door stop is a little worrisome for me).

If you have a PSN account send me an invite @ hamster78.
