Agreed X2 on Guild Wars. It's a great competitive game, if you can deal with the uneven playing field MMOs inherently posess (though the playing field is more even than most, since unlocking things takes a lot less time than it does in most MMOs).

Kick ass! Thank you so much for letting me know about that. I didn't plan on getting there until about noon on Saturday, but now I know to be therre by 8:00am for the SSBM tournament.
If anyone else is going, I'll be wearing an 8-Bit Theater "Jesus Saves" t-shirt or a Megatokyo "NPC" shirt. Be sure to say haldo to me.

I can't wait for this book to come out in print. Sirlin, your stuff is always solid gold, and as soon as I can get a copy of the book (sorry, I'm not going to EVO for it) I will.

Also, SSBM may not be an evo tourney, but MLG is hosting EVO, and MLG has a SSBM tourney going on as part of the hosting under the MLG name, not the EVO name. So AFAIK, there will be an SSBM tourney in the same area, just not hosted by the SRK staff.

Sirlin, I read your article in the Game Developer mag thing and I enjoyed it.

I haven't been coming to your site (sirlin.net) for very long but I've enjoyed what I've been reading on it.

Either way, I have to question your current fascination with WoW. As a competitive gamer, you don't seem the type... but I'm also assuming that you're not playing it as a competitive game (not that it can be played as one, anyway). To my point, however, I wonder why you've not tried "Guild Wars". Perhaps you have and you didn't like it, I don't know.

Regardless, I'd be curious to hear your opinion of the game. In my experience, the PvP is quite solid and reasonably balanced. It also seems to reflect your competitive side a bit more.

The game's biggest flaw in PvP is something that I've identified after reading your "Slippery Slope" article about Positive and Negative Feedback in games. To be honest, I kind of already knew what you were talking about it, but I wasn't able to put words to it or compare with other games.

Anyway, I was just thinking that you should try it if you haven't already and post your thoughts.

Hey, I'll probably be showing up on Saturday (and buying a copy if it's not sold out). If anyone knows if Sirlin sells out, please post about it here.
Also, if anyone goes into the BYOC room, let me know if you see any SSBM (it makes me cry that they're not even considering a tournament for it). I may also participate in the Soul Calibur II tournament if it's on the right day.

Sup,

I'm looking forward to that book of yours. Regular run means it'll be available on Amazon? Can you post a small bit about it (possibly chapter titles)?
