CCC2 and SGC Available Now
Today (November 14th) is the release of both Capcom Classics Collection 2 (ps2/xbox) and Sega Genesis Collection (PSP...the PS2 version came out last week). Check them out and let me know what you think.
I hope you enjoy all the developer interviews from Japan on SGC. We also went the extra mile to include a way that you can input the original secret codes that worked on the Genesis games. This was kind of tricky considering we replaced all the button mappings with PSP and PS2 buttons (which can remap to whatever you want), yet the Genesis codes require you to know which Genesis buttons you're pushing. It's a big confusing problem that I think we solved in a reasonable way.
As I've mentioned before, the new Capcom Collection features 30 minutes of video tutorial produced by me as well as a version of Quiz & Dragons with new questions, a great many of which I wrote. It also features cheats (one for each game) which you earn by playing the Quiz & Dragons with the new questions. The unlock for Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo is an "easy special move" mode that I personally find really fun to mess around with. And it also marks the first time ever that you can play the arcade version of SSF2T *and* have training and versus modes.
Oh yeah, and both SGC and CCC2 allow you to save your game at any time. That alone is a major improvement from our previous versions.
Vote with your dollar that you do value all the extra stuff we put into these collections. We have some new projects on the table that are extremely exciting and I want Capcom to know that the more care and enhancements we put into these games, the better they will sell.
Thank you for playing,
--Sirlin

Excellent. I want CCC2 for Super Turbo and that video tutorial alone!
November 14th, 2006 at 9:14 pm
I checked and looked around, but the europe release is only in 19-01-2007.
Well, it’s really something to look forward to and worth the wait.
I also want to see those videos and SF I as well. Just out of curiosity.

Hey man, I just found this site a few days ago, and after reading your comments on CCC2, it looks like you put a lot of effort into it. This compilation is pretty much one of only a small handful of games I’ve looked forward to since I bought Volume 1, so consider this purchased. Keep up the great work, and try to get in AvP for Volume 3 — long shot, I know, but hey ;)
Good luck, I hope this sells swimmingly.
November 15th, 2006 at 4:00 am
I’ll probably be picking this up as soon as I can.
November 15th, 2006 at 5:27 am
Sirlin, do the PAL versions have 60hz support? Or is this something that is taken care of outside of your hands?
November 15th, 2006 at 6:10 am
I don’t believe they would be so silly to not add 60Hz support.
Still haven’t seen the game in the stores here, I guess I’ll have to wait a little.
November 15th, 2006 at 9:12 am
The PAL version of CCC2 for PS2 *does* support 60Hz.

You said in a previous entry that this would be an arcade perfect version of Super Turbo, in the context of being able to drop Anniversary Edition at Evo in favour of your console release of Super Turbo on CCC2. I’m slightly concerned that you haven’t trumpeted that point again in this post, as it would seem worth making clear. Is it perfect or are there gameplay differences?
November 15th, 2006 at 2:26 pm
I know of no gameplay differences from arcade to console in ST. But you never know what players will find. It’s possible there’s some horrible thing we missed, but as far as I know it should be fine for tournament play.

I’d buy either of those, but I don’t own any of those systems. Hope there’s a port to a Nintendo system in the future.

I picked up SGC today but gamespot did not have a copy of CCC2. Is the save anywhere feature in the select screen of SGC? Because I havent come across it yet. The presentation is great: music, menus, definitely compares favorably to Taito Legends. The instruction manual is also really good
November 16th, 2006 at 10:35 am
I picked up SGC last week, & it’s pretty awesome. But this is for Sirlin, I do have a question to ask you. On the PSP version of CCC: Remixed, I noticed that Side Arms had a messed up color pallette (the title, players and enemies had the wrong colors) and Strider had the wrong music in some locations. Did the same thing occur on this version? I hope not.
November 16th, 2006 at 1:14 pm
On SGC, press select to bring up the pause menu and save anywhere. Press start on CCC2 for the same menu.
Side Arms does not have a messed up color pallette. For legal reasons, Capcom changed some of the art to avoid copyright infringement on Gundam.
I’m not aware of any problems with the music in Strider.

Just writing to say you did an excellent job on SSF2T and also CCC2 overall. I really enjoyed the tutorial videos for ST as you and NKI did great on those. I need to practice that negative edge one with T. Hawk. ;)
Do you still play HF on 360 Live? We played a few good matches when the game first came out and I sure would like some more. My tag is immortalbmw so maybe I’ll send you a friend request if that’s cool.
November 19th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
Thanks a lot for CCC2 man. I am trying to learn Street Fighter better, and all the stuff you did with ST really helps. Love all the other great classics you put on that game, hope another great game like this comes out in the near future.
November 19th, 2006 at 5:56 pm
Great news! I’m definately buying CCC2. I already own CCC1. Now all I need is a good arcade stick.
November 20th, 2006 at 10:27 am
I purchased SGC and will buy CCC2 as soon as I find a store that has it in stock. Can’t say I like the “unlockables” concept much in general (I already bought the game, dammit!) but at least most of the unlockable chores are reasonable or, at worst, moderately tedious.
Any chance for another Sega Collection including the Golden Axe and Shinobi arcade games? GA2 arcade never got the port it deserves the original Shinobi was only ported to NES/SMS.
November 20th, 2006 at 4:52 pm
When is this supposed to be released in Europe? Still no sign of it here :P
November 20th, 2006 at 10:38 pm
> I’m not aware of any problems with the music in Strider.
See http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129940 for details.
November 20th, 2006 at 10:59 pm
Yeah, I posted about this on SRK. The music is completely messed up in Strider. Levels 1, 3, and 5 all have the same music. This really bummed me out cuz I was looking forward to an arcade perfect version of the classic. :( Now I will have to resort to loading times for psone to get my strider kicks.
Other than that little flaw, CCC2 owns. St is freaking sweet (aside from the glitchy training mode, who cares about that) and the tutorials taught this seasoned SF enthusiast a few new tricks. Thank you, Sirlin.
November 22nd, 2006 at 6:29 am
I have the US arcade board for Strider right next to me. The music on level 1 is the same as the music on level 3. Maybe re-think the phrasing “completely messed up.” Looks like CCC2 matches the arcade board on this issue.

Dude,
Will Capcom Japan release this game? I live in Asia, so our PS2’s are NTSC J and not NTSC U/C, so unless I mod my cool gold-coloured Hyakushiki PS2 or buy an American NTSC U/C PS2, I won’t get to play this game. Please tell me they will release CCC2 here!
November 22nd, 2006 at 9:08 am
Hey, I don’t mean any offense by it. Your work is excellent. If you say the arcade version has that, I find that very peculiar. Is the other music tracks from 3 and 5 only for the Japanese version? I own the soundtrack to Strider and the PSone version - they both have different tracks for level 3. Again, if it is from the real US arcade, then it is my fault for saying you messed up.
November 22nd, 2006 at 6:29 pm
The Strider in CCC2 is an older version of Strider, but it is the Arcade game.

How do you respond to problems reported with sound in the PS2 version of SGC? This includes the “stretched-out” quality many of the effects have, the FM instruments that sound incorrect, the left-speaker-only ring sound in Sonic 2, and the problems with music not stopping in the right places in Phantasy Star IV. It seems like the music in SGC was streamed off the disc. Was it difficult emulating the Genny’s sound output?
Is there any chance of having a native-resolution display mode in future PS2 compilations? I appreciate the addition of 480p, and that’s great for people with ED/HDTVs. But the sole 480i mode, with all its stretching and interlacing, doesn’t leave these games looking their best. The more recent Sega Ages 2500 packs have options to have the games display at their original resolution (termed ‘240p’ there). It does these games a world of good for them to have solid, non-interlaced image quality and their scanlines to smooth things out they way they’re supposed to be. Here’s a nice writeup on the subject: http://222b.livejournal.com/144560.html

Sirlin, I was just wondering if this, or any arcade pefrect port of ST will come out in Japan? I bought a jap PS2 as the base for an arcade machine cabinet I’m buiding, I have copies of 3rd strike, the zero collection and Hyper SF2, but St is where it’s at and I’d really like to add SF2 turbo and ST to the collection, that way I can have a multi-game home tourney style machine if you get me.
Seeing as a large amount of credit for thios game is due to you (congrats) do you think a japanese release will surface at all?
November 27th, 2006 at 7:59 am
If you/peolpe don’t visit the shoryuken forums want to know, I’ve posted a video of some glitches in ST’s training mode (all about throws) and why the Easy Special cheat shouldn’t be allowed in tournament play (even though I doubt that it ever was going to be).

Ah, I love this game. This collection really brought back some memories and this collection was great.
I’ll also pick up Sega Genesis Collection as well since i enjoyed this collection so well, got to vote with my money.
If you can try to put Alien vs. Predator volume 3

Is there anything in the works for a Sega Collection vol. 2? Is something like that even possible?
December 15th, 2006 at 8:47 pm
Hi David. Nice, nice job on both of these compilations. They’re already on pre-order (PAL versions) As other posters have said, I’m looking forward to 3C2 for the ST and tutorials alone. I’m really hoping that you’ll get around to doing a Vol 3 - but PLEASE put SF3 on this one! A similar Tutorial unlockable would be great too for 3S (such a deep game!) I know there wouldn’t be too many titles on a third disc (Midway managed 3, and by the third iteration, the numbers of games dropped as the game complexity increased), but I really wouldn’t care - in PAL territories, there was never a version of 3rd Strike for PS2 and I’d happily buy it for that title alone (others would too). Having AvP would be a cool addition to the scrolling brawlers on the previous two collections. Other nice additions would be MSH or even X-Men COTA, or even MvC (1 or 2) - not sure about the licensing implications though. Then of course, there are titles like Gigawing or Mars Matrix. Come on guys - you know you want to!

Both of these games were nominated by Gamespot for Best Classic Compilation. Congratulations.

I just want to say, great work on CCC vol. 2. All that time and effort that was put into this compilation really stands out. I love playing all those arcade classics and as an old school ST player, I just want to say that your attention to detail for arcade accuracy is priceless. Your explanation in the ST tutorials was just what I needed to show my friends in order to break that “invisible wall” that kept my friends from playing ST and now I have more competition to play against, teach, and hopefully someday learn more strats from. On another note, that special quiz and dragons capcom trivia game was a very nice bonus.
Btw, I played CCC vol. 2 a while back at Comic con 06′ and although it wasn’t fully complete then, I was already hooked and I knew this was something worth my time. Now I look forward to the next compilation. =) Thank you and Congratulations David.

Would you say the difficulty in Super street fighter 2 turbo is the same as in Hyper street fighter 2?the one thing I prefer about super turbo is being able to fight akuma at the end more easily. Is it possible to beat cpu akuma perfect using Ryu?How come the new challengers was not released on this edition too?I would like to see an arcade perfect port of that too one day.
March 22nd, 2007 at 5:41 pm
Great work Sirlin, I am a UK pal player and have CCC2 pre-ordered.
But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include 3rd strike in the next volume as it has never been made available for us european PS2 pal players.
SF3 3rd strike we await you with baited breath :0)

I really think the original street fighter 2 games should be redone as an arcade perfect port too with the same difficulty as the arcade once again. Please reply Sirlin.

Mathew Brown: The difficulty in ST on CCC2 should be exactly identical to the arcade version’s difficulty. There was talk during development that CCC2’s ST is harder than arcade ST, but after much testing, I was not able to prove it was any different.
When you say Hyper Street Fighter 2, I assume you mean Anniversary Collection. I can’t speak to the difficulty of the CPU in that game. I have no idea. (Also, don’t play the CPU in the first place.)
Super Street Fighter is widely regarded as pretty terrible. It was a step backwards from SF2:Hyper Fighting (the version before it) and was a huge failure in arcades. Super SF2 Turbo is strictly better. There’s basically no demand for Super SF2, so I don’t see why Capcom would release it unless it was on some uber SF collection with every single game ever or something, but that’s unlikely too. Just hang in there and you’ll get something good though.

Many thanks Sirlin. I bought my CCC2 on Friday as it has only just been released in the UK. I have played super turbo on the easiest setting and slowest speed and I struggle to get to the end. I have done so 3 times without continues and had akuma twice. They say you need 3 perfects and no continues but I’m sure I reached akuma with fewer perfects. Do you know the mystery as to how to get akuma instead of Bison?
I would say this version is much harder than the arcade one I have played on but it depends how they have set the difficulty dipswitch.
Curiouisly I can do Hawk’s super cyclone but have great difficulty getting an ordinary cyclone out.what would you say is the best way of doing the circular motion on the PS2 pad?How would you get Guile’s super move out fingering wise?
I am very pleased with your super turbo version and I think the CPU does play partly like a human. It’s good at blocking. On the subject of super street fighter many people rightly think street fighter 1 is terrible but surely more so than super.
What makes super turbo better than super?
