Dota Song and Sweden

Here's a music video about playing Dota on Ventrilo.

(Translation, if you need it: Here's a music video about playing Blizzard's Warcraft 3: Defense of the Ancients, a very popular player-created mod to the base game Warcraft 3. It also mentions Ventrilo, a program that lets several people voice chat over the internet together, often used by gamers.)

Anyway, this song is by Basshunter, and it's currently #2 on Sweden's Top 40 music chart. The song is cool and all, but the fact that the song could exist at all is what excites me. Can you imagine that song being #2 in America? Most Americans are probably too dumb to even install Dota, much less enjoy a song about it. Sounds like Sweden rocks.

You know, when I play Dota, I never seem to attract the roomful of hot women that these guys do. I must be doing something wrong. (Maybe girls don't like Bone Clinkz?)

I think it’s written Swedish and Sweden in English.

I think the only difference between you and him is that he is singing about it on a basstune.
If you do that too next time you’re on a LANparty, you’ll be amazed how well it works :D

  2. Sirlin Says:

Oops, the stupid American (me) can’t spell the names of other countries. Sorry, fixed.

This song makes me realize how underserved the millions of us gamers are. Songs on the radio are about such a narrow slice of the human experience.

    More gamez s0ngz pls.

    wow…

if only america can learn from other countries then maybe we videogamers would actually be as cool…

    hehe

  4. Steve C. Says:

Oh come on, everybody hates a Clinkz player. Judging by the video, it looks like the ladies love Tiny.

  5. Griffith Says:

Hmmm, it would seem Swedish chicks dig hardcore bass, Dota, Warcraft 3, Ventrilo, or some kind of tricky combination of the four.

And I don’t know why I am surprised by this after watching the Dota video, but can you bloody believe that Basshunter’s new album is actually called “LOL ”? I mean, seriously, what the hell?!

And yes, I’m being serious – the album name is on his website intro here: http://www.basshunter.se/basshunter.htm (of course, the intro message is likely to change eventually, but for now the info is accurate)

    Regards,
    Griffith

Wow. Just… wow. Damn this accursed internet.

  7. Angry Lobster Says:

/me puts on a flak jacket.

    I didn’t like it…

  8. Dylan D Says:

This song is awesome. Best song about video games since Rapwing Lair by Shaun Connery (If you haven’t heard this you gotta check it out). Love the techno beat and the ladies in the video… if playing WoW were only an aid to finding attractive women instead of a hinderance I never would have quit. North American women are so bull man… so bull… Wish I was Swedish.

  9. Tekei Says:

I’m swedish and I could tell you that most people listening to Basshunter don’t even know what he is singing about.. I mean.. his other sing “Botten Anna” is about an IRC bot called Anna that turns out to be a real girl but there are loads of people who thinks that he is singing about a boat. “Båt” is the swedish word for boat and is pronounced similarily to “bot”.
I have a hard time even figuring out how this Basshunter hype started. It’s cool that a song about a game can get that popular and all but Basshunter in general is starting to get on my nerves tbh… :P

    (Please excuse my english)

  10. Fieari Says:

Catchy tune, but the lyrics are a little repetitive. Eh, I guess that’s the genre though. Not my cup of tea, but… *shrug*

It is promising though that our culture is spreading out more and more into the mainstream.

While Sweden does, apparently, rock, no need to be ignorantly insulting on a whim, especially since it can be argued that anyone who’s played on War3 bNet at ALL has at least heard of DotA (Which, since USEast and USWest are both bigger than Europe, means that more Americans know of DotA than Swedes.)
    :) Still love you, Sirlin.

  12. Kikimaru Says:

Wow — is it just me, or does this sound a lot like some kind of “Pure Pwnage”-inspired cock?

  13. JohnBono Says:

Sirlin, what’s your BNet name? I usually play on US West under JohnBono, but I get decent pings on all 4 servers.

  14. Stan64 Says:

    Sweden ownz. ^^

But we need more pro gamers here.. =(

Sirlin, you rock btw. I WILL buy your book someday. ^^

  15. Shadow Says:

THis song is very good i like it alot its very fun to listen to this and play the game dota on warcraft 3 frozen throne eddition. I dotn liek the subs they suck but other then that this song is da bomb

  16. Many people get it wrong Says:

Sweden rocks, but the tune from thsi song is borrowed/bought/stolen/whatever from an america song , which I find to be much better: Daddy DJ.

The singer from Daddy DJ has a much better voice and the song is much more addictive than its swedish copycat. Plus, its an original :)

  17. Basics Says:

Dope, dope dope. Lol this song is a lot of fun, and yeah. Bone Clinkz isn’t a great hero. Chicks dig Tiny, which may seem counter-intuitive, but look at it this way: Over the course of the game, Tiny grows to become the biggest hero in the game. His name is thus already somewhat ironic, and I think chicks diggin’ it just adds to the irony.

I mean, come on, I know you want to get with that Craggy Exterior. Mmm…

On an unrelated note, if I ever made a DotA song, the music video would certainly feature better clips than ones of me AoE nuking creep waves and towers. Youtube Bengal_Tigger, and that’s more what it would look like.

  18. Guest Says:

Of course Tiny gets all the chicks, he has a Craggy Exterior, he Grows and occasionally he tosses until he unleashes an Avalanche.

    …sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  19. Ventrilo Says:

Gotta love dota all stars — always use Ventrilo in it too when playing with your team (helps a ton).

  20. Limp_B Says:

i´m Bolivian, the video is great, but here it is not known, but DotA is a boom here ,all plays DotA.
But We need more pro gamers.

    Derek:

Considering the totality of “installing DOTA” is downloading a map and dragging it into your “maps” folder that’s not really better. It was more charitable when we could assume “installing DOTA” included “acquiring and installing WC3″, which is not quite as easy.

Anyway, mmm… what i would give to be able to play and/or strategize about playing DOTA with Sirlin… :3

I’m an American and I really love this song. I love the majority of Basshunter’s recent work. Although the song beat may been borrowed or whater from Daddy DJ I feel this song is much better and Basshunter gave credit to Daddy DJ by remaking a small portion of it and calling it Pappa DJ. As for Americans being too dumb to install or play DOTA that’s not true at all. I personally don’t play but I have many friends who do. Adults in America are generally stupid but I know plenty of people in my age range (I’m 16) who really appreciate other cultures and their music as well as their ideas. Not all Americans are stupid.
