Evolution 2006 Finals Soon
I'm leaving for Las Vegas in two days to go to the Evolution Finals (www.evo2k.com). I already qualified for Guilty Gear XX Slash and for DOA4 (but I don't even play that anymore). I failed to qualify for SF2 AE, so I'll enter the pools like everyone else.
In SF2 AE, I expect to see a lot of CE Bisons. I'll admit that he can sometimes win matches for no good reason. Random crossup psycho crushers can sometimes end up doing 100%, as can a random scissor kick -> dizzy -> dead. There are a few counters to him, so we'll see who tries to take him down with who. CE Guile is also a top character, but it takes a good Guile player to pilot him. HF and CE Ryu are still contenders. The ST cast will still show up, I'm sure, as ST Balrog and ST Dhalsim are still good choices. Too bad ST Vega and HF Blanka have broken, buggy move detection for flash kick moves or I would play both of them.
Guilty Gear is going to be pretty insane against the Japanese players. They're on another level. It still claim that Eddie is top tier because the whole idea of controlling two characters and having a fast, full-screen knock down ("invite hell") is just too good, no matter how much he's been nerfed. Slayer is up there too (which again, no one else believes). I don't really understand ABA, but her crazy damage potential would seem to make her top tier even considering the instant kill risks she takes. Ky is also top tier, and I see why now.
I also disagree with everyone's Chipp rankings. He went from bottom tier to second to last tier, in my opinion, but I have some kind of mental bond with him, so I'll stick with it. I've tried to take up better characters but it never works out, so it'll be Chipp 'til the end this time.
I hope to see you all there. This even should be our best yet.

I understand how you feel about Chipp; I have the same problem with Millia. I KNOW she isn’t that good, but I just cannot stop playing her. Quite annoying, I know…

Dude, Millia is AWESOME.
Great Mixup
Good Pokes
AWESOME Corner combo that ends in a Knock Down and is EASY.
So.. she takes a lot of damage and doesn’t have a good reversel… Meeeeeeeh~ She’s just solid. She just takes some skill to use properly — but once you learn it it’s easy.

I knew you’d come crawling back. They sped up his dust! How could you resist?

I bought the Japanese game on play-asia.com, though lik-sang has it too. I use HD Loader on my ps2 to play imports. The Evolution tournament uses actual Japanese PlayStation 2s though.
Pat: Yeah, yeah. I can’t shake the Curse of Chipp. I’m forever doomed to play him. The air teleport behind is good. The extra damage off of the sweep combo is good. If only I could have another character at the same time (Eddie) or 4 times the damage potential (Slayer) or lots of bs (Ky, Testament, Sol, etc). lol.

Yeah I love HD Loader also so fast with loading times :) Is Guilty Gear Isuka any good? The PSP version called Guilty Gear XX Reload is pretty fun also.

Guilty Gear Isuka is not good. It has lots of problems such as horribly scaled sprites and the turn-around-button (makes you flip left/right) which ruins the whole game. Stay away.

Not to start a ‘thing’, but it’s a little harsh to call SSB superior to SSBM, considering their respective communities.

Tyler: Sol and Ky. They’re just that ass easy to play and do well with in Slash (Volcanic Viper hurts like hell in Slash).
I sort of agree with Sirlin — Eddie cannot be bad. I don’t think he’ll end up ‘tops’ again like him (It’s not like theres any new developing stratagies with him — he’s #R Eddie only less good basically). I dunno. Tiers in Guilty Gear can be iffy when it comes to some characters. I find it hard to place characters like Eddie and Venom who in some respects are just TOO GOOD (ESPECIALLY with Eddie). Dizzy was ranked bottom but several people still just rape with her so hard (Alex G?). Still, safest choices are Sol and Ky.

Sol-Badguy right?

When it comes to Guilty Gear, don’t even look at tiers. They just mess with your mind.

I played a friend’s copy of Guilty Gear XX, and liked it enough to buy my own copy… Of Isuka. I still need to throw it away and find a copy of another version somewhere.

Good luck at EVO; I hope to one day go myself.
Here’s the hoping that Capcom v. SNK 2 will still be there when I do make it there!
And don’t worry about Chipp. If you have this bond with him and can play well with him, I don’t see any reason why to drop using him. After all, tiers don’t always make victory.

My main issue with Millia is her COMPLETE lack of any useable anti-air (supers excluded). All it takes is for someone like Ky or Anji to lock her down with mix-ups, and you’re basically screwed. If you can play her on an infinite offensive, I’m sure she’s great (and I’m sure it’s been done), but if your oppenent ever manages to force you to stop and block something, it’s over for Ms. Rage.
Hwat mixums does she have? QCBpunch works as a low, but she doesn’t have any good highs that I can think of at the moment. QCBhighslash comes out way too slow to be used effectively. How does one go about mixing up with Millia?

Forward Punch is rather effective for AA as is Close Slash (more situational!) Down Heavy Slash can do OK in the right situations. Then theres always other options like air throwing, jumping punch WHATEV. They’re not great options but they’re not terrible! More importantly is the REWARDS of a successful anti air.
So opponent jumps in. You Foward Punch them. OPTIONS!
F.P -> F.HS -> Roll -> HS Disc FRC
Slam em to the ground and set up a wake up game.
F. -> Crouching HS or Close S -> Pin Loop Combo Or Mid Screen Pin Knockdown
If you’re not playing Slash then use a different combo — Either way they all end in a knock down and a Disc.
So you landed and have the Disc out, huh? Now what? Mix their ass up. What do you have in your arsanel?
Crouching Kick (2K), Crouching Slash(2S) for low normals and Forward Kick(6K) for your High. So you could do say…
|-> 2S -> Tiger Knee Bad Moon or Iron Saber
2k -> 5k |
|-> 6K -> Tiger Knee Bad Moon or Iron Saber
Both Bad Moon and Iron Saber can be FRCed (in Iron Saber’s case it might not hit) and can then be air dashed from for air dashing high low mixup (You gotta jump install 2S for an airdash during the Iron Saber but whatever). Both Iron Saber and Bad Moon lead into the same mixup again if they hit. the FRC disc can also cause pop up if the 6K hits.. Which means… Aircombo into knock down. 2S hits? air combo into knock down. This is just one possible sequence. You can also be like…
2k 2k 2s HS Roll and Throw
or…
2k Roll Crossup, 5k or whatever -> More Mixup. Disc stun can keep you safe from throws… Or.. 2s Tk Turbofall crossup.. Or hell, lay a meat disc, jump over for crossup.. Air dash back and forth. Or just one and dash back for combo or knock down or more disc BS. You can also use Bad Moon or Iron Saber to bait throws and can be comboed without an FRC…
Theres just too much. You can use any combination of stupid crap and it all leads to the same BS -AGAIN-. You don’t even need to use the fancier stuff. Just throwing around TK Bad Moons, Iron Sabers, 2k, 2s and 6k in various combinations is enough. Hell, you can mixup in so many different ways you can land a dust simply because they’re so confused they don’t see it coming. Theres probably better stuff too.
Thats mad mixup, Son. Hope it helps.

Oh the little branching combo thing got split but whatever. But for clarity… Probably should of done this to begin with.
2k -> 5k -> 2S or 6k -> Tiger Knee Bad Moon or Iron Saber
Sorry Sirlin, I know this isn’t the place for this kinda stuff :P. Anyways, if you got any questions BWprowl, go check dustloop.com.
Sad to see you didn’t place in anything. Always rooting for ya and can’t wait to here your stories.

Sirlin do you play Tekken or anyone else here? I found it just not really for people who have skill with fighting games although it is quite popular.
